Which Dynamics 365 certification suits a commerce graduate or chartered accountant?

MB-310, Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate, is the closest fit for larger organisations, because it centres on the chart of accounts, journals, receivables, payables, budgeting and fixed assets. If you want to work with small and medium businesses, MB-800 for Business Central covers similar accounting ground in a lighter ERP. Neither exam requires coding.

Is MB-280 still available?

No. MB-280 and the Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst Associate certification retired on 31 July 2026. Microsoft named AB-210, which earns Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate, as the replacement. AB-210 focuses on Dynamics 365 Sales with Copilot and agents, including lead qualification, deal development and sales research.

Is there still a Dynamics 365 Fundamentals exam?

No. Microsoft retired both Dynamics 365 Fundamentals certifications, MB-910 for customer engagement and MB-920 for finance and operations, on 31 December 2025. Start directly with the role-based exam that matches your background, using the free Microsoft Learn modules for that exam to cover the basics first.

Do Dynamics 365 exams test Indian GST and TDS?

The exams test the standard global features, such as sales tax groups and withholding tax setup. Indian GST, TDS and TCS come from the India localisation, which Microsoft documents separately for both Finance and Business Central. For Indian projects, learn the localisation on top of the exam content; this is product guidance, not tax advice.

Can a functional consultant move to a technical Dynamics 365 role later?

Yes, and the functional knowledge helps. A Business Central functional consultant who learns AL in Visual Studio Code is well placed for MB-820, and a Finance or Supply Chain consultant who learns X++ can aim at MB-500. Understanding the business process first makes the code you write far easier to design and test.

Do Dynamics 365 certifications expire?

Yes. Microsoft associate certifications, including the Dynamics 365 ones, expire every year. You renew them free by passing an online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn before the expiry date. If a certification lapses, you have to pass the exam again to earn it back.

Choose a Dynamics 365 certification by the business process you already know. Accountants fit MB-310 for Finance, supply chain and warehouse staff fit MB-330, customer support professionals fit MB-230, and small-business ERP consultants fit MB-800 for Business Central. Developers choose MB-820, MB-500 or AB-400. For Sales, AB-210 replaced MB-280 in 2026. All of these exams are live as of 25 October 2026.

Functional or technical: decide this first

Dynamics 365 work splits into two tracks, and the right exam follows from the track.

Functional consultants run workshops, map a company's processes to the product, configure it, test it and train users. Coding is not required. What matters is domain knowledge: accounting for Finance, procurement and stores for Supply Chain, service operations for Customer Service.

Technical consultants extend the products in code. Business Central uses AL in Visual Studio Code (MB-820). Finance and Supply Chain Management use X++ in Visual Studio (MB-500). Sales and Customer Service sit on Dataverse, so their developers take the Power Platform Developer exam, now AB-400; see our PL-400 to AB-400 guide.

It also helps to know the three product families. Finance and Supply Chain Management are the finance and operations apps for larger organisations. Sales, Customer Service and Contact Center are the customer engagement apps built on Dataverse. Business Central is a separate ERP aimed at small and medium businesses.

Finance and Supply Chain: MB-310 and MB-330

The MB-310 study guide was updated on 14 August 2026. Financial management is the heaviest area at 35 to 40%, covering the chart of accounts, financial dimensions, ledgers, currencies, journals, cash and bank, period close and tax. Receivables, credit, collections and subscription billing take 15 to 20%, and payables and expenses, budgeting and fixed assets take 10 to 15% each. The update removed cost management and added budget planning.

The exam tests the standard, global tax setup. Indian projects add the India localisation. Microsoft's scope of the Indian localization says it calculates CGST, SGST and IGST, handles TDS and TCS, produces GSTR report formats, and calculates depreciation under the Companies Act 2013 and the Income-tax Act 1961, through a configurable tax engine. That describes product features, not tax advice, but it shows where an Indian accounting background becomes a real advantage on projects.

The MB-330 study guide was updated on 21 October 2026, with minor changes. Product information management leads at 25 to 30%, followed by inventory and asset management and by warehouse and transportation management at 20 to 25% each, supply chain processes at 15 to 20%, and master planning at 10 to 15%. If you have run procurement, stores or a warehouse in any ERP, the concepts transfer. Landed cost, which tracks freight and duty on inbound voyages, is worth extra attention if you work with importers.

Customer engagement: MB-230, AB-210 and AB-250

The MB-230 study guide puts case management at 51 to 55% of the exam, with representative experience and routing at 25 to 30% and extending Customer Service at 15 to 20%. Knowledge management, service-level agreements, Copilot features and the Case Management Agent all sit inside the case area.

AB-210 replaced MB-280 and earns Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate. Its five areas cover core Sales setup, AI-driven sales design, lead qualification, deal development and extensions, with deal development the largest at 25 to 30%. Expect questions on configuring and monitoring the Sales Qualification, Sales Close and Sales Research agents. Microsoft highly recommends intermediate Power Platform configuration training before you sit it, plus working knowledge of model-driven apps and Power Automate cloud flows.

AB-250 covers Dynamics 365 Contact Center: voice and digital channels, routing, the representative and supervisor experience, voice agents and workforce management. Implementing channels is the biggest area at 30 to 35%. If you have worked in contact centre operations, this is the closest fit.

Business Central: MB-800 and MB-820

The MB-800 study guide changed on 30 June 2026. Configuring financials and performing day-to-day operations take 30 to 35% each, setup takes 20 to 25%, and sales and purchasing configuration takes 10 to 15%. The new outline adds a section on processing inventory transactions, and setup now includes enabling Copilot and agent capabilities.

Business Central has its own India local functionality: GST including e-invoice and e-way bill, TDS, TCS, gate entry, subcontracting, an audit trail and edit log feature for accounting software in India, and a toolkit for upgrading from the Indian version of Dynamics NAV 2016. If you have worked in accounts at a small or mid-sized Indian company, journals, posting groups and dimensions build on ideas you already use.

On the developer side, the MB-820 study guide gives AL objects the largest share at 35 to 40%: tables, pages, reports, codeunits, permission sets and queries. The rest covers architecture, the development environment, AL language standards, testing, telemetry and APIs.

The X++ route: MB-500

The MB-500 study guide, updated on 30 January 2026, has seven areas. Developing and testing code is the largest at 20 to 25%, including Chain of Command and the SysOperation framework. AOT elements and data integration each take 15 to 20%, covering data entities, dual-write and virtual entities. It expects Azure DevOps version control, Lifecycle Services and Power Platform admin center skills, so it suits developers who are comfortable with both code and environment management.

How to practise without a project

Use the free practice assessments. MB-310, MB-230, MB-800, MB-820 and MB-500 have them on Microsoft Learn. AB-210 and AB-250 practice assessments are on AI Skills Navigator.
Build one process end to end. In a free trial, run procure-to-pay or order-to-cash from master data to posting, then trace every ledger entry it created. That teaches more than clicking through menus.
Avoid memorising menu paths. Questions are scenarios. You need to know why a setup choice fits a requirement, not just where the setting lives.
